How did you come up with the story for Choosing Sunshine?
I am an extremely curious person. Many of my stories begin with questions that I have about people and situations. The idea for Choosing Sunshine started to grow during the financial crisis that occurred in the U.S. and around the world. I began to wonder what would happen if a teen from a well to do area was forced to give up their way of living and move to a poorer neighborhood.
What happened to get them there?
How would they react to the change?
What would there new friends be like?
Are the characters real?
The characters from Choosing Sunshine are not real people. They grew from my imagination.
What do you like to read?
Anything and everything. I am just as interested in books about science or business as I am in reading the latest YA novel. One of my favorite things to do is wander around the library and pull books from different sections off the shelves and start reading.
What was your favorite subject in school?
Literature and History
What book are you writing next?
I often have multiple ideas for stories floating around my head at the same time. I plan on bringing many of the characters from Choosing Sunshine back in a short novella. In addition, I am plotting out a middle grade story set in the future.
So, stay tuned.
